New Board Members

New Treasurer: Peter Williams

The first board meeting of 2011 was held last night. In December we said “so long” to our Treasurer for the last 3 years Ben Stuckart, who helped immeasurably bringing P2P into the shop and community space we occupy now. This meeting marked that transition as we welcomed Peter Williams to fill the role of Treasurer. We’re very lucky to have him as part of the leadership team. His deep connections in the Northwest, strong education background  and love the outdoors make him an ideal person to help P2P do more in 2011.

Board Member at Large: Paul Dillon

We also welcomed Paul Dillon as our Board Member at Large. Paul brings a wealth of experience and knowledge of Spokane community issues as an aide to Jon Snyder, a strong media presence through his “Down to Earth” radio program on KYRS and passion for bicycling in Spokane. His perspective and leadership will be invaluable in the coming year.

2011 has a lot of exciting things in store for Pedals2People. We’ll be continuing with our free community bike tune-ups, offering more classes and looking to grow our volunteer base by deepening our footprint at many community events. Keep an eye on this space for opportunities as the year progresses or stop by the shop and talk to one of our awesome mechanics about ways you can get involved.

The shop is open all winter long Thursdays and Fridays from 2:00PM – 6:00PM and Saturdays from 10:00 – 6:00. Spring is coming, stop by and get that ride ready to roll!

5% of Sales to Rwanda at Two Wheel

Our good friends at Two Wheel Transit We are pleased to announce that 5% of the sales price of any 2011 Trek bicycle purchased from January 3 through February 15 will be donated by the shop to Project Rwanda. If you know of anyone considering a new bike, please make them aware of this worthy project!

Project Rwanda provides special cargo bikes in the form of a micro loan to Rwandan coffee farmers with 300 trees or less. These bikes make a significant contribution to the quality of life of these industrious farmers. To date the shop has raised enough for 2 bikes from donations and matching from Two Wheel Transit.

There is currently a “coffee bike” on display on the sales floor as a way to demonstrate this program. Ck it out.

This is Dylan. Not only is he a really fast (and lumber jacky) CX racer, he’s a web developer. He has ported our site over from our buddy Alex Wetmore’s basement to another hoster and he’s ported our platform to WordPress.

Here’s Alex:

Not only is Alex an expert tire changer — and really, he is (with a patch, he can replace a tire in well under 10 minutes, and we all know you must wait at least 5 minutes for the glue to vulcanize before adding air to a patched tube) — but he’s also the hoster of many websites and bike-related lists (bikelist.org, phred.org, etc).

So the new website is a port to WordPress. Note we have the ability to have pictures in our posts now! Yes. We shall henceforth commit to abuse this feature.

Alex and Dylan are both super nice righteous dudes that put in a lot of time in between their busy lives to help keep the virtual P2P online. Alex has put in at least 10 hours on this latest project and we sort of stopped counting after 30 hours for Dylan. This is huge and we so appreciate it.

We can now deal with comments too! So that gives you an opportunity to test out the new platform by thanking Alex and Dylan too.
