Not a lot, but go here to see the pics I took today of the walls and store front at our new space.

We donated three bikes to Project Hope today, or more specifically to their Riverfront Farms project. The bikes will serve the farm’s teens as their transportation between the farm and the market sites. We also brought three helmets. The bikes were donated to us, and our volunteers serviced them. While we’re making room for our move, these bikes needed a home where they’d be useful, and Riverfront Farms is just the place for some hard-working mountain bikes.

We also connected with our volunteer, Bernard, who brought three more bikes to his church that will be redistributed to the working poor in his community. Bernard works with at-risk teens and also newly-transplanted refugees. Again, we’re so happy to redistribute our over-abundance and help where others have a need. The pedals that were donated to P2P keep spinning and bringing forth mobility and empowerment to the people.

The walls are up and the new P2P space is materializing! While the SNAP team hustles with the build out, we’re busy, with help from Ryan, John, Glen, and John, getting the shop organized. We moved 30 feet of double-sided, heavy-duty shop shelving this morning. A huge thanks to Steve Muntz for the donation!

We have our permits from the city, so we are ready to start building out our space. We’re partnering with SNAP to get our new space in order, and we are so excited to see the walls go up, and the shop to come together. Wish I had more to report on the space, but I will post more as it happens.

Some notes from our 2009 Annual Meeting:

• We’re proud to have serviced nearly 200 bikes at our free tune-up events this summer
• We were able to do 3 of those tune-up events completely by bicycle–thanks to New Belgium Brewery and their grant, and an in-kind donation from Burley, makers of the cargo trailers we purchased
• We’re happy to have the support of individual donors and local businesses who provide much needed financial backing for our programs, purchase of tools, supplies, insurance, and regular maintenance
• This fall marks the start of a partnership with SCC and our first work-study employee
• New programs are in the works: ladies and other mechanics classes, thanks to the support of local professional bike mechanics
• And our move to a more central location on east Sprague is forthcoming!

This winter P2P will be offering a Ladies Wrenching Class. Each class will cover a major bike component, include instruction, practice, and will be taught by local pro bike mechanic, John Gaz. John has over 20 years of experience in bike mechanics, knows how teach so people can learn, and his sense of humor and love of bikes are evident . Ladies, you don’t want to miss this opportunity!

Pedals2People’s annual public meeting is scheduled for Sunday, Oct 25th at 4pm. We will be hosting a casual dinner, and we’ll let our supporters know what’s upcoming for the next year. I think most of you know that we’re moving to a more central location. This move and our continued educational programs and outreach services will cover some of the things we’ll be talking about.
