We Are Full!

Thanks to everyone who signed up for our fundraiser dinner coming up this Sunday. We have maxed out our registrations, plus some :,,)

If you missed it this year, sorry, and please try next time. We do this every summer.

Perry St Fair Tune Event, Year 3

P2P was back at The Shop parking lot this year tuning up bikes. This event benefits the Vanessa Behan Crisis Nursery and showcases the good things happening in south Perry and around Spokane. We made several new friends and had a great time. Thanks to all our committed volunteers, the fair organizers, Crow, and two new people who helped with bikes, Meagan and Brian. This was also our first event with the new mobile units. They are sweet! Check out Jeff’s pics to see the set-up.

Next time you’re in the neighborhood, say hi to Miguel at The Bike Shop. He just opened a full-service shop on the 1100 block of south Perry. Ask him about the free bikes he’s planning on refurbishing and making available to folks in the neighborhood.

SpokeFest Spoke Card Designs Chosen

Erica Roscoe, Joe Tomlinson, and Jeff Everett’s designs have been chosen for the 2009 Spokefest spoke cards.

Their designs are smart and unique. They depict SpokeFest’s and P2P’s vision of cycling as a fun activity that offers something for everyone. If you want to sport your own ’09 Spokefest spoke card, register online. Sorry you have to wait until September 13th to get yours, but we think it’ll be worth the wait!

Just 12 Spots Left

There are only 12 spots left at our fundraiser dinner. And it’s no wonder, with a scrumptious Mexican menu planned and prepared by Chef Char Zyskowski, and local wine and beer pairings, this event is sure to fill up! Email Liza at pedals2people@gmail.com to reserve your spot.

Burley Pitches in Too!

We just want to thank Burley Design, makers of high-quality bike trailers, for their generous in-kind donation. Burley’s donation enabled us to stretch the grant money from New Belgium to purchase two more trailers than we were planning on buying. We purchased four Flatbed bike trailers, and we are busy getting the tools and supplies to equip them. We cannot wait to start pedaling (not merely peddling 🙂 a message of sustainable transportation, empowerment and building healthier communities!

We've Got Funding!

P2P was awarded $2300 from New Belgium Brewing Co to purchase tools and supplies to outfit our new Mobile Tune-Up Units. Whoo-hoo–thank you NB for believing in us and what we do!

This is our third year of offering free bike tune-ups in Spokane. P2P connects with neighborhood groups and takes part in several community events each summer. We bring tools and parts, and our volunteers work tirelessly to get bikes safe and ride-able for many thankful kiddos and adults. Last year we serviced nearly 150 bicycles.

Typical at our tune-up events are tires to change, flats to patch, and gears and brakes to adjust. These fixes yield immediate results, which are so satisfying. We love these events in our community, and we hope to do them for many more years.

With our NB grant, we’re going to restructure the tune-ups so we can do 2 things: smaller, more impromptu tune-ups by bike and offer
additional services like classes to small groups. This means we’ll be purchasing Burley cargo trailers, Park folding bike stands and tools, and other supplies. The streamlined mobile component is so important to us as we model what practical cycling looks like, how sustainable transportation works, and why these things are central to empowering people and building healthier communities.
